Slow-Motion Speed

Slow-Motion Speed

Sometimes, I feel I’m swimming upstream.
The water is cold, dark and fast.
Things move faster than they seem.
How long can this current last?

I struggle to use my legs and arms
In ways I know should work.
The water continues to swirl and swarm.
I move in slow-motion jerks.

I see you swim away from me
With confidence, strength and speed.
I’m losing ground continuously.
A blurr is all I can see.

I concentrate on my struggling moves.
I’m mesmerized by them.
The more I try to get in the groove;
The more I find I can’t swim.

I think I’ll find a little rock
And hang there for a rest.
Unless I hang and stop the clock,
I’ll never give my best.
